Blue Future has made me the organizer I am today.

The world has changed, and it truly is changing every day. But especially this past year of 2020. 2020 will not only be known for a distressing and historic election season but also for a traumatic global pandemic. It has made many young people, like myself, feel overwhelmed, unseen, and disheartened. But finding pockets of knowledge, organizing and advocacy has helped me feel more in control, positive, and of course; HOPEFUL. And I know I do not feel alone in that, many of my peers, co-workers, and friends have felt the same. But attached to those valid feelings, we have also had a strange yet comforting sense of hope, that we have not felt in the past 4 years. And this is due to organizers and the work of general organizations like Blue Future.

I always knew that my generation held power- but I guess I didn’t really understand the magnitude that’s held within that specific power. This past semester of Fall and Winter 2020, working with Blue Future in a pivotal moment in history has shown me the exact skills, knowledge, and progressive change I can truthfully achieve. Every week, we had trainings with different powerful people, all of which helped us develop our personal potential within the political world. This organization helped me indulge in the benefits of the trainings, the opportunities to help our own communities, help our peers and ourselves in many ways.

I can honestly say, this program has helped me become more confident in what I want to achieve in the future, Blue Future openly elevates others to push themselves all while having great mental health resources accessible to everyone. Always making sure and encouraging others to place that first. As well as granting others with never-ending support and encouragement. I have worked with many organizations before within the government and political sphere, as well as nonprofits and PACs, but none like Blue Future. This is what separates Blue Future from others, the authenticity, their care, and the safe space it cultivates for others like me. Here’s to the HOPE Blue Future has given us and here’s to a Bluer future.

With Gratitude,

Maria Hernandez
