My experience with creating a youth advisory council with Blue Future has been difficult but rewarding. My team NJ YAC and I have worked hard to create strategic plans, outlines, mission and vision statements, and to contact representatives. During this process, we all worked together to try to accomplish the goal at hand to create the New Jersey youth advisory council. NJ YAC met weekly to discuss our goals and ideas for the council and how we would proceed with it when it got started.

Individually I have been running NJ YAC’s Instagram uploading graphics that our team has made and working to gain a following that can see who we are and what we want to do. I have learned how to connect with professionals in the governing body of New Jersey and utilized LinkedIn and other forms of communication to reach out to them. I learned how to work well with others and collaborate on ideas to build something bigger than us. Some of the professional skills that I have gained from this experience were learning how to utilize Canva to help create social media posts for myself and to collaborate on making NJ YAC’s logo for social media and the website.

This experience has helped me learn new things, and use resources that I didn’t know were previously available to me all while being a part of a youth council that truly cares about getting our voices heard in NJ. The Blue Future Spring for Progress and Change Program has taught me so much and I am so grateful for them for giving me this experience.
