My Reflection on working with Blue Future
By Molly Maravel, Blue Future Spring for Progress and Change organizer
Throughout my time at Blue Future, I have learned a lot about what it means to be an organizer for a progressive democratic organization. My group for making a Youth Advisory council was MACYAC. When starting this project, I was nervous about how I was going to complete it and if it would be good, but in working with my fantastic team, we have successfully launched our youth advisory council. We have made plans to continue working on it until it is successful, and we can pass it on to new people. I enjoyed working with my group as we were efficient and are all hardworking and dedicated people. I am so excited to see where our youth advisory council goes from here.
From the Blue Future training themselves, I enjoyed going to them each week and hearing about different advocacy issues and hearing from speakers who had lots of experience with the problems. Blue Future also gave me a lot of information about how to succeed in the professional world. I now have experience forming my resume and can now take that with me into the professional world to help achieve my goals in life. I also have made valuable connections with the entire Blue Future group, and I’m excited to foster those connections for the rest of my professional life.
My advice that I would give to young change-makers is to go with the passions they have for specific issues and use them in their organizing experience. I also would tell them to put their best foot forward with organizing and to know that it is an uphill battle and not a straight line and there will be bumps in the road, but to keep believing in yourself, and you will get there with achieving your organizing dreams.
Overall, I cannot thank Blue Future enough for the experiences that I have had and the connections that I have made. I know wherever I go in life, I will always have Blue Future to thank for my start in politics!
